Onions

On February 8th, 2008, on the N3 in Durban (which is, I think, in South Africa) A truck had a blow-out, which caused it to slide in the wet conditions, colliding into a guardrail and overturning. The news report says that a “bakkie” then collided with the truck.

Apparently, a “bakkie” is slang in South Africa for a small pickup truck. It’s also the name of a small bowl to put something in, which would explain the nickname.

Nobody was hurt, but cleanup crews cried for hours. Just kidding. It’s an onion joke.

Posted on The Wx Fam blog on April 14, 2008:

A few days ago, my mom was at home and suddenly heard a loud noise outside…

A grain truck had overturned in their front yard spilling its load of soy beans. The driver was a little dazed, but not injured. Within minutes, the police and a tow truck were called to the scene. Later, a crop vacuum came by and cleaned up the soy beans.

M&M Cookies

On September 13, 2007, a tractor trailer carrying 20,000 pounds of M&M’s Cookies overturned in San Bernardino, spilling cookies all over the highway. In the photos, it looks like it’s just M&M’s, but if you look closely, you’ll see that it says M&M Cookies. Nobody was hurt. It took crews several hours to clean up the mess (and, no doubt, stuff their cars with cookies).

Jell-O Snack Packs

On April 23, 2008, a tractor-trailer overturned on I-95 in St. John’s County, Florida, spilling Jell-O Snack Packs all over the roadway.

The truck flipped after it ran into another truck, which splattered individual Jell-O packs all over the highway, which caused a major traffic jam. The driver was trapped inside the truck, but was rescued, airlifted, and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else was hurt. Bill Cosby is distraught.

Future Hams

On May 23, 2008, a truck loaded with future hams ran off the A22 highway in Trentino, Italy and overturned. The truck split open, spilling two tons of pork legs on the side of the road. They appear to have been hanging from the roof of the truck.

Flour

A truck carrying flour crashes and spills on I-95 in Laurel, MD in 2004.

Crew used brooms and leafblowers to remove the flour. They were reluctant to use water because of the mess it could have created.

Entrails

This disgusting truck spill ocurred on October 10, 2007, in Monticello, AR.

The truck was hauling more thatn 500 pounds of decomposing animal entrails and hides, pig heads, and outdated processed meat. The driver slammed on his brakes on U.S. 425 and the disgusting contents of his trailer shifted forward and over the top. The road was closed for a half-hour and bystanders gagged while a 15-man crew cleaned up the smelly spill.

The driver was on his way to a Wal-Mart to pick up it’s outdated meat. He was cited for spilling the load and having no proof of insurance and the trucking company will be billed for the cost of the cleanup.

There is no law or regulation requiring a load of rotting entrails to be covered. This is a good example of how little you know about what’s in the trucks that you pass everyday on the road. You see this type of truck all tht time and you’d never guess it was carrying entrails.
